Shawn Fonteno’s GTA experience goes back two decades to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, when he lent his voice to the game. But the actor had a much bigger role in Grand Theft Auto 5 as Franklin Clinton, one of the game’s leading characters. More recently, Fonteno dropped in on Kai Cenat’s stream and related how much in common he has with his now-iconic character, including some grisly wounds.

“When they picked us, they picked the right people for the job… Like my experience is just like that dude, Franklin. I got bullet holes all in my body [from] gang-banging,” recalled Fonteno before pulling up his shirt and showing off the scars from some of his bullet wounds.

“It was easy for me to be that character,” continued Fonteno. “I didn’t have to act like nobody else. I didn’t have to change my voice… You know, I had to pull up and interview with a bunch of dudes y’all ages. So I was like. ‘Man, I ain’t going to get this.’ But I guess they liked the voice, and the persona, and who I was. They called me back, and that’s when I met the dude that plays Lamar… Slink Johnson.”

Fonteno and Johnson both reprised their roles for GTA Online, and the former called the latter for a vocal guest appearance during this stream. Fonteno also called his cousin, Young Maylay, who played Carl “CJ” Johnson in San Andreas. Maylay also briefly spoke to his cousin during a call into the stream.

Fans hoping for any Grand Theft Auto 6 scoops from Fonteno may have been disappointed when he didn’t share much information or even confirm whether he’s involved or not. A former developer for Rockstar Games recently stated that fans will be “blown away” by GTA 6. Meanwhile, Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track for a Fall 2025 release.
