Now that it’s out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the developers behind Phasmophobia have spoken about what’s next for the co-op ghost-hunting game. One thing you can expect not to see is a crossover with famous IP like Ghostbusters, as the developers currently don’t have plans to add licensed content.

“I think it’s something we’ve seen from the community, whether you look at the Discord, at the Reddit, at the socials, people are talking about it, asking for that kind of stuff,” Phasmophobia marketing manager Asim Tanvir said to VideoGamer. “Again, it’s about the demand from the playerbase, the community, for that, and it’s about whether it falls in line with our vision for the game as well. We don’t want to put–for example–the actual Ghostbusters in the game. It just wouldn’t make sense. That’s not the tonal shift we want from our game, right?”

Tanvir mentioned that some IPs would be a good fit and something could happen in the future if developer Kinetic Games changes its mind, but the studio is now focusing on delivering new content for its playerbase. Phasmophobia became a big hit when it first launched on PC back in 2020, as playing it or watching streams of it during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic made for some great entertainment. The studio recently spoke to GameSpot about just how Phasmophobia remains a masterclass in terror several years later.

If you are looking for a Ghostbusters game, there are fortunately options out there. Ghostbusters: The Video Game was remastered for console several years ago, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is an action-packed paranormal extermination multiplayer game. If you own a PlayStation console and you’re a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscriber, it’s available in the game catalog right now.
