Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred has added the first post-launch class, Spiritborn. The Spiritborn challenges the spirit of four different animals to deal a variety of damage, depending on how you want to build. Combined with powerful passive abilities, Spiritborn offers a ton of options for making powerful builds, so long as you have a good understanding of each animal’s specialties. Here’s everything you need to know about the Spiritborn class in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred.
The four animal spirits
Eagle abilities deal lightning damage to your foes.
There are four animals you can channel as the Spiritborn; Centipede, Jaguar, Eagle, and Gorilla. Centipede skills focus on dealing poison damage, Jaguar skills increase attack speed, Eagle skills deal lightning damage, and Gorilla skills deal high physical damage. Initially, you will want to focus on a single type to maximize your build, but once you unlock the Spirit Hall via your class quest, you can get much more creative.
The Spirit Hall lets you channel a special passive ability from one of the four spirits, but more importantly, it makes all of your skills also count as skills for that spirit. For example, you could only have Centipede skills equipped, but if you activate the Jaguar Spirit Hall passive, all of your Centipede skills also count as Jaguar skills. This means any passives you get from the skill tree or from your equipment that apply to Jaguar skills also apply to your Centipede skills, allowing you to get very creative with whatever combination of skills you want.
Stats to build around
There are specific passives and stats you can build your Spiritborn around:
Critical hitsDodgingBlockingBarrier generationVulnerabilityThorns
Depending on which stat you are interested in building around you can create combinations of the two Spirit Hall passives. For example, combining the Jaguar passive for the first choice with the Eagle passive on the second choice drastically increases your critical hit chance. Combining the Gorilla passive in slot one and Centipede in slot two will drastically increase thorns damage, letting you build around that. Most Diablo 4 builds excel when you focus on a single damage bonus, so finding the right combination that works with the loot you have is important.
When it comes to building, an important thing to note is that the Spiritborn has fairly limited options for weapons. The Spiritborn can only use three types of two-handed weapons: Glaive, Polearm, and Quarterstaff. This restricts some affixes you can roll on weapons, but it also drastically limits the Uniques and Mythic Uniques you can utilize in your build. The main stat for the Spiritborn is Dexterity, which increases all damage done as you level it. Strength provides armor and critical hit chance, Intelligence provides resistance to all elements and resource generations, and Willpower increases healing received and overpower damage.
Since Diablo 4 builds shift drastically whenever a patch drops, we won’t recommend one here, but instead link to Icy Veins, which will have up-to-date end-game builds if you aren’t interested in creating one yourself.
