After a year of smaller updates and patches, Starfield finally has its first full-fledged expansion. The Shattered Space DLC offers hours of fresh gameplay, quests, and items to unlock as players set across the stars on a new journey. However, before you can hop into Shattered Space, you need to meet a few requirements and complete a specific task in Starfield. Here’s how to start the Starfield DLC, Shattered Space.
Requirements for Shattered Space in Starfield
For starters, you need to own the Shattered Space DLC itself. Shattered Space is a premium expansion that is sold separately from Starfield for $29.99. You can purchase it from the marketplace you’re playing Starfield on, so either Steam or the Xbox Store. Xbox Game Pass users will also need to purchase the expansion, which you can do for a discounted price at the link below.
However, if you bought the Premium or Constellation Editions of Starfield, you already own Shattered Space. The DLC is included with both of those editions, meaning all you need to do is update Starfield on Sept. 30 to gain access to it.
Once you own Shattered Space and download it, you can load up Starfield. The only in-game requirement to begin Shattered Space is to complete the game’s first mission, One Small Step. This mission takes you to Jemison on New Atlantis in the Alpha Centauri system. You don’t need to join Constellation to complete the mission.
What Remains is the first mission in Shattered Space
However, the recommended level for the Shattered Space DLC is 35 and above. While you can start the expansion at a lower level, some of the enemies and missions will be extremely tough at a lower level.
Starting Shattered Space in Starfield
If you’re playing on a save that’s already done One Small Step or you just completed it, follow the steps below to actually start the DLC:
Travel to a star system that has no active missions available for it. You also need to clear any bounties and ensure you have no contraband onboard your ship before starting Shattered Space.Make sure to travel to a system and not a specific planet.Once you arrive in a system with no other missions, you’ll receive a distress call from someone onboard The Oracle. This makes a new mission, What Remains, appear in your quest log.Activate the new mission and board The Oracle space station, which will appear in whatever system you traveled to.The Oracle is a large station with tall beams surrounding it.To board The Oracle, press the “Interact” button while in your ship and you’ll get the prompt to dock. The Oracle space station in Starfield
