JRPG fans have been spoiled for choice lately with nostalgic remasters and retro-inspired games, and now, Threads of Time is entering the scene. Announced during the Xbox Showcase at the Tokyo Game Show, Threads of Time bills itself as a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger and it has a similar aesthetic to Square Enix’s HD-2D JRPGs like Live a Live and Octopath Traveler. It’ll be launching for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Developed by Riyo Games, Threads of Time unfolds across multiple eras, from the age of dinosaurs to the far-flung future. Players will explore these distinctive periods and discover the threads that bind the ages together, uncovering a tale of interwoven fates and secrets. There’s also a sinister plot lurking in the shadows, and you’ll need to assemble a party to restore the ancient order of the Time Knights to put a stop to any nefarious trouble that’s brewing.
As for gameplay, there’s a dynamic turn-based combat system and time-bending powers. You’ll also be able to recruit allies from across various eras in time, and these companions can help you pull off powerful combo attacks against enemies. Threads of Time doesn’t have a release date yet, but to make the wait for it a little easier, Xbox did announce that Square Enix’s Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana will be available starting today through Game Pass.
Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster is also now available for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and on November 14, Bandai Namco will launch Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
