During Gamescom 2024, GameSpot got a sneak peek of MachineGames’ upcoming game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in a hands-off demo. Here’s what we saw.
In true Indiana Jones fashion, the game has players overcoming combat setpieces, puzzle solving, and exploration across the globe. The studio told GameSpot it sought to create an immersive Indy experience, meaning the player has to be skilled at not just piecing clues together, but also kicking Nazis butt. The studio also wanted to make something more lighthearted than what they’re known for, and the Great Circle gave them the opportunity to do that.
From the Gamescom show floor, check out GameSpot’s Kurt Indovina and Dave Jewitt discuss their hands-off impressions of Xbox’s upcoming action-adventure game.
While in combat, players will have to use their environment to gain the upper hand by picking up tools they find or having bad guys run head-first into a metal pole. Unlike most MachineGames projects, the Great Circle doesn’t encourage you to use your gun. Instead, it’s often reserved as a last-resort item when things go especially bad.
A nice feature that may excite fans is that when Indy gets knocked down, he stumbles and looks for this hat. Once he finds it, it triggers a cutscene and gives players a second wind. When players aren’t fighting, they can disguise themselves and sneak into enemy bases.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live, MachineGames also revealed that Indiana Jones And The Great Circle will be released later this year on December 9 and will be coming to PlayStation 5 next spring.
