EA Sports FC 25, the second in the franchise to lack the FIFA branding, is due out this September, and EA has revealed some of the title’s new gameplay features. The video introduces new tactical system FC IQ, as well as player roles, new play styles for goalkeepers, and more.

The new FC IQ system, which EA describes as “a complete overhaul of the game’s tactical system,” will allow for more in-depth tactical play, with players having more fine control over the team’s tactics. “FC IQ can be used to easily emulate a favorite manager’s tactics,” says gameplay producer Paul Parsons, running through an example inspired by Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti.

As part of this system, EA has also added Player Roles for FC 25, allowing you to set a player’s role to deploy them in different ways depending on the situation and your personal strategy. “We built an out-of-game AI model in order to help identify which Player Roles fit players in FC,” Parsons explains, adding that some players will have a plus, or a plus-plus indicating that the player is either accomplished or world-class in that role.

EA is also adding Smart Tactics, a system that will automatically provide tactical suggestions to the player as the game progresses. You can also share useful tactics with friends or followers using a code system.

FC IQ will be in use across all modes, including Clubs and Career Mode, which EA adds will be getting its own deep dive further down the track. “FC IQ will also influence the core systems in Career relating to Transfers, Scouting, and the Youth Academy,” says producer Thomas Caleffi. “Meaning squad building and development goes way beyond just OVRs.”

EA Sports FC 25 will release on September 27, 2024. Preorders are open now, with early unlocks and additional bonuses for players who preorder the game.
