Shadow of the Erdtree is almost here, and to get Elden Ring fans excited, publisher Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for the Elden Ring expansion. As you’d expect, it’s a sizzle reel of what you can expect, including a sneak peek at several bosses who’ll horribly murder your Tarnished avatar, some digital tourism in the Land of Shadow, and that unmistakable feeling of elegantly constructed dread that awaits you.

Reviews have gone live for Shadow of the Erdtree, and on GameSpot’s sister site Metacritic, the expansion is now the highest-rated DLC of all time. Based on 58 reviews, it has an aggregate score of 95, just one point below the base game itself. An impressive feat, Shadow of the Erdtree has leaped ahead of other well-received expansions developed by From Software, like Astorias of the Abyss for Dark Souls (89) or Bloodborne’s The Old Hunters (87).

Outside of Souls-like games, Shadow of the Erdtree ranks higher than Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty Metascore of 89. Both expansions also share the rare achievement of a 10/10 score on GameSpot. “With all that Shadow of the Erdtree offers to accompany what exists in the Lands Between, the story of Elden Ring now feels complete and its world whole, and it’s a staggering achievement,” Tamoor Hussain wrote in GameSpot’s Shadow of the Erdtree review. “It’s dark fantasy done masterfully; rich in detail and intricate in its construction; a place that feels dangerous and cruel, filled with memorable characters, fascinating rules, mind-bending concepts, and competing ideologies.”
