It took almost an entire day, but one Destiny 2 fireteam rose to the challenge over the weekend to conquer the new Salvation’s Edge raid in The Final Shape. Team Parabellum was acknowledged by Bungie as the Worlds First winners of the raid, as the group spent 19 hours exploring the high-level PvE event, cracked several tough puzzles, and eventually faced off against the Witness. Fittingly, this is the longest that it has taken a raid to be cleared, narrowly beating the infamous record set by Forsaken’s raid, The Last Wish.

That victory also opened up one more mission in The Final Shape, Excision, allowing players from all over the world to band together to put the Witness down for good.

We have received reports that a fireteam has successfully completed the Salvation’s Edge Raid and prevented the Witness’s Final Shape.
Please stand by as we verify.

Salvation’s Edge proved to be an especially difficult and complex raid. In the rush to get the coveted Worlds First win, several teams streaming the raid began to mute their mics or took their stream offline entirely so that other teams couldn’t copy their methods for clearing parts of the activity. Destiny legend Datto resorted to streaming just his face as the game went onto an audience of tens of thousands–and several fans complained about how these measures took some of the thrill out of watching teams complete what is arguably the most important raid in Destiny’s history.

Fortunately, the unlocked Excision mission didn’t disappoint, as this was open to all players following Team Parabellum’s successful completion of Salvation’s Edge. Excision, which plays like the climatic last stand of Avengers: Endgame, is a massive throwdown involving 12 players, the Vanguard, coalition forces, and even the Witch Queen herself, Savathun, in a last-ditch effort to take down the Witness.

All hands on deck.

Once that fight was over, players were treated to the true conclusion to The Final Shape and the last 10 years of Destiny, as well as a few subtle hints at where the franchise will head next now that the Witness is out of the picture.

Overall, The Final Shape has been well received since it launched last week, with the game’s community commending the expansion for delivering a worthy finale after a decade of storytelling, expansions, and foreshadowing.

The rest of the year will see Bungie focus on Episodes, a trilogy of post-launch content that will unfold over the next year. Bungie also plans to provide further details on the next year of Destiny 2 in a livestream, kicking off at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET today.
