The highly anticipated World of Warcraft expansion, The War Within, finally has a release date. Announced as a part of 2024’s Xbox Showcase, the “final battle” comes to Azeroth August 26, 2024.
In addition to a release date, Blizzard also shared a new cinematic trailer. The trailer offers a look at some of the game’s previous bosses, before showcasing the upcoming dark force that comes “from the very heart of the world.”
The War Within is the first part of World of Warcraft’s Worldsoul Saga, a three-part arc that “celebrates the first 20 years of World of Warcraft and sets new foundations for Azeroth’s future.” Blizzard announced the saga at BlizzCon 2023, as well as the expansions’ names: The War Within, Midnight, and The Last Titan.
In The War Within, players will venture to the four subterranean zones of Khaz Algar, home of the titan-forged Earthen. According to Blizzard’s blog post detailing the expansion, players will “start [their] adventure on the Isle of Dorn off the western shores of Pandaria and descend into The Ringing Deeps.” They can then “marvel at the brilliant sights of Hallowfall before plunging into Azj-Kahet, the high capital of nerubian society.”
In addition to new locations, the expansion also comes with a new allied race (the Earthen), a higher level cap (level 80), and Delves, which are “bite-sized world instances you can tackle alone or with up to four friends plus an NPC companion.”
World of Warcraft: The War Within comes to PC on August 26, 2024.
