Prime Video’s The Boys TV series wrapped up its fourth season this week, and the season went out with a bang. Now, the show’s creator and showrunner has provided a peek behind the curtain of how the most climatic part of the finale was created, and it’s getting people talking about the possibility of a video game based on The Boys. Major spoilers follow below.
Eric Kripke revealed that the team works with Cncpt Studio to create detailed CG pre-visualizations for major scenes prior to filming, and this was the case for the season finale. Creating a pre-vis sequence like this can help the team decide on camera positions, lens, and coverage, Kripke said, all without having actors rehearse in person. Peter Jackson famously used pre-vis animatics to plan out some of its biggest and most complicated scenes as well. Many Hollywood productions do this.
For the season finale of The Boys, Kripke enlisted Cncpt’s help for the pivotal sequence where Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) launches tentacles out of his chest and uses them to rip the would-be president Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) in half. Cncpt’s pre-vis of this sequence is pretty impressive in its own right, featuring all the main characters and their movements from the scene in pretty solid detail.
“Our team is amazing,” Kripke said of the work. Take a look at the video for yourself below.
Fun SPOILER BTS: when we have a big VFX sequence, @stephanfleet & @CncptPreviz cook up a detailed CG Pre-Visualization (Pre-Viz), so we can decide on camera position, lenses, film coverage. This is from #TheBoys ep 8 climax. Our team is amazing. #TheBoysFinale @TheBoysTV pic.twitter.com/Tca33LZwdC

The impressive-looking character models have people calling on Prime Video to make a video game based on The Boys. It remains to be seen if that would ever happen, and the rights might be a little complicated given that The Boys is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Prime Video. Both Sony and Amazon have their own dedicated gaming divisions, too.
Characters from The Boys have already come to video games, as Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir were added to Call of Duty as playable characters, while Homelander alone came to Mortal Kombat.
The Boys will return for one final season to come, but it won’t be here anytime soon. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Gen V Season 2 at some point sooner. For more, check out GameSpot’s rundown of 10 burning questions going into Season 5.
