Nexus Games’ new looter shooter, The First Descendant, has experienced quite a warm welcome following its release, nearing the top of Steam’s most-played list shortly after launch. Unfortunately, The First Descendant’s sudden popularity may be causing a bit of trouble, as the game is now experiencing server issues including failed login attempts. Players are reportedly being met with a “down for maintenance” notice upon attempting to load into the game.

“We have noticed that game connections are temporarily unavailable,” Nexus Games shared on Twitter. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this error. We are promptly working to identify the cause and resolve it.”

Based on a follow-up tweet, it would seem Nexus Games may have pinpointed the source of the problem. The current theory is related to a network error, and devs say they are waiting for the network to recover. It’s possible that the game’s overnight success could be straining the servers.

(Update) 07/03(Wed) Notice of Game Connection Issues
# PDT 2024.07.03(Wed) 00:00 – We have found that Connection issue is mainly due to MS Network error and we are waiting for MS to recover. We will make notice once it’s recovered.

The third-person co-op game puts players in the shoes of warriors called Descendants, who are blessed with special powers that aid them in their battle against an alien race called The Vulgus. Though the game is free to play, it does include microtransactions, which have drawn the ire of some players. Still, there’s plenty of content players can unlock free of charge, including a Descendant named Bunny.

Currently, there are additional details available regarding how long it will take for the network issues to be fixed, but the game’s developers have assured players that the issue will be dealt with promptly.

“Once it’s resolved, we will make a prompt notice,” the game’s developer assured players on Twitter.
