An apparently new Xbox dashboard–located on the screen of a Rimac car–was shown during a segment of the show Top Gear, but it may never see the light of day.
The Robotaxi reveal shows a reimagined Xbox 360-style blades dashboard with The Finals, Fortnite, and Halo Infinite on it. The narrator said that the dashboard is supposed to emulate the same feeling you have when booting up your console in your living room.
However, Microsoft provided a statement to GameSpot, saying that it had no plans for a dashboard like what was seen in the Rimac card and simply called it a mockup. “We currently have no plans for an Xbox Rimac dashboard,” said an Xbox spokesperson. “For more information about this mockup video, please reach out to the Rimac team.”
While Xbox said it has no plans to implement this more streamlined dashboard onto the Rimac, it’s possible that it can be placed elsewhere. Microsoft is already in the process of making its own mobile store for Xbox so that it can compete with Apple and Google in the space. Xbox was working on a streaming-only console, Keystone, which was never released. Microsoft is also reportedly working on an Xbox handheld, similar to something like the Steam Deck and PlayStation Portal.
This isn’t the first time people could play games natively in vehicles. Back in 2019, Tesla owners could play Cuphead in their cars.
