It’s been nearly eight years since Dead Rising 4 hit consoles, but Capcom is finally ready to revisit its other zombie franchise. While another sequel doesn’t seem to be on the horizon, the original game is getting a second redo in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
Capcom announced the new remaster alongside a teaser trailer that brings back the series’ original protagonist, Frank West. But unlike the 2016 HD remake of Dead Rising, the Deluxe Remaster appears to be a completely updated take on the 2006 game with a look that’s closer to Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes from the past few years.
Although there’s no gameplay in this teaser, the core premise of the title appears to remain the same. Frank is a photojournalist who is looking to get the story of a career by dropping into a zombie-infested mall for 72 hours. Presumably the remaster will once again allow Frank to deal with the zombie hordes in his own inventive fashion, while adding a few new tricks to his arsenal.
Capcom hasn’t announced a release date for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, but it will be coming to the current generation of consoles. And if this return to the franchise is successful, perhaps we’ll finally get Dead Rising 5 some time down the road.
