Ahead of the greatly anticipated release of its first expansion, Bandai Namco has announced that Elden Ring has passed 25 million players. “We have come a long way together,” the game’s social media account wrote to celebrate the milestone. “We are ever thankful for your passion and support.”
Elden Ring released in February 2022 and was a quick success, selling more than 12 million units in its first month. It finished 2022 as the No. 2 best-selling game in the US, trailing only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The game was the No. 18 best-selling game in the US in 2023. So far in 2024, it is the No. 19 best-selling game in the US.
Elden Ring’s first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, releases on June 21 for $40. It is a meaty expansion, taking players to the Land of Shadow and introducing 10 new bosses to defeat. Players must reach a certain part of the game to access the DLC, and a good percentage of PC users have not done this yet.
Elden Ring’s overall sales numbers are expected to grow with the expansion’s launch, as Bandai Namco is also releasing a bundle that includes the base game and the expansion for $80. There is also a deluxe edition of the bundle with other extras for $100.
Developed by From Software, Elden Ring may become more than a game and jump into other areas in the future. Many are wondering if From Software might release a sequel, and that remains to be seen.
