It didn’t take long for a deft individual to bring the recently revealed Shield Saw from Doom: The Dark Ages to the original Doom. This is no mere decoration, either, as the modded item can be thrown to dice up enemies and also used to rip through them in close-quarters combat.
Spotted by IGN, a self-described amateur artist called Craneo on X (formerly known as Twitter) posted a video showing off the shield in the first game from the FPS series. The new weaponry–which works defensively and offensively–was a point of focus with the unveiling of Doom: The Dark Ages at the Xbox Games Showcase. The shield can be revved up like a chainsaw, tossed like a boomerang, and even used to bash baddies in the prequel title.
aight I kinda ended up trying to make actual decorate for it… it works, will upload in a bit. pic.twitter.com/OORmCydVL0

Doom: The Dark Ages is inspired by the original Doom and will apparently be an origin story for the Doom Slayer. Developer id Software also cited King Leonidas from 300 and Aragorn from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy as points of reference for creating this game’s version of the Slayer.
The last game in the series was 2020’s Doom Eternal, while the original Doom came out in 1993. Doom: The Dark Ages is planned for a 2025 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be available day one on Game Pass.
