Rebellion has been synonymous with the Sniper Elite series, but during the Xbox Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2024, the studio debuted a new survival-action game that is blending a wild variety of aesthetics and time periods called Atomfall.
The first-person action starts off in an idyllic British countryside besieged by autonomous mechs, but quickly moves towards some striking underground caverns with arcane-powered ghouls to contend with. The manner in which the trailer swings between these two settings is both confusing and captivating, giving little sense of how they might relate to one another but certainly making a strong case for the action that’s unfolding in both.
According to the game’s trailer description, Atomfall takes inspiration from a real-world nuclear scare in England in 1957, with the game taking place in a future that is still reeling from a different outcome. Survival gameplay elements will have you visiting pubs, red phone booths, and everything in between as you collect valuable resources in a bid to survive dangerous factions and mysterious enemies laden around the tranquil countryside.
Atomfall is scheduled to launch in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It’s also releasing on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
