Remasters and remakes are all the rage these days, and Yooka-Laylee is getting another coat of paint. Developer Playtonic Games recently announced Yooka-Replaylee, an enhanced remaster of the 2017 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee.

While we don’t have a release date yet, Yooka-Replaylee will apparently improve on nearly every aspect of the original game, including a better camera, revised controls, a world map, and an art and animation overhaul. Naturally, it will also feature new content and secrets, so even those who mastered it back in the day will find something fresh here…to re-master, you might say.

According to the press release, one of the biggest additions to the game is Vendi, a sentient vending machine. You can now collect coins to buy new tonics that allow you to customize your playstyle and moveset much more thoroughly than before. Yooka-Replayee also features a re-recorded orchestral soundtrack, which is one of the highlights of the game, as it was made by former Rare composers Grant Kirkhope and David Wise.

The last game in the series, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, came out in 2019. Unlike its predecessor, it’s a 2D platformer that takes many notes from Rare’s beloved Donkey Kong Country series.
